Brief 5:: Wayfinding
I want the wayfinding to use white inflatable circles like the ones GoPaintball use in their professional field games. The balls will represent paintballs whilst being splattered in the GP colours to continue the brand consistency.
These will be positioned in the country side as GoPaintball is located in a rural area. The wayfinding therefore needs to be highly visible so this will do the job nicely.
This mock-up is not amazing but it gets my visual across.
Brief 3:: Lookbook selected layouts
From the layout experimentation, I have chosen a few and brought them together to see how they would come together...
I have asked Lavinia what she thinks of these preliminary design and she is happy with them. It is now going to depend on the photos that I receive as to how this ends up looking.

Brief 3:: Lavinia Lookbook
I have begun to think more about the design of the look book. After talking to Liv, she seems pretty open for me to produce what I wish. I am thinking of producing a postcard style unbound look book encased in a translucent envelope.
-
To get the design on it's way, I have begun to consider the layout of the pages.

Brief 5:: Splats
I have vectored the splats that I made myself using paint, so that there is a digital version that can be mass produced onto all the GoPaintball collateral. I have reproduced the splat in the three colours of the paintballing companies branding: pink, yellow and orange.
Brief 7:: Poster Variations
I have produced a variety of poster designs so that I can pick the best to then mock- up
Brief 3:: Adjust type for embossing
I have been playing with adjusting the type of Lavinia's logo ready to go back to Vernon and make another embossing plate. However, when I increased the weight the kerning then decreased.
Due to this, I went right back to the beginning of making the logo and increased the kerning to allow the spacing to still remain when the logo was then rescaled. Well, this was the plan! But, it didn't go to plan and when the logo was re-sized the kerning was back to the same as before and the type was just slightly shorter.

Brief 3:: Lookbook
I have been researching into lookbooks that already exist to get inspiration for what I can propose to produce for Livs lookbook.
Brief 3:: Embossing Plate
Early this morning I got my self down to Vernon Street to pick up the embossing plates.
-
Everything was going well and things were looking good. I got on the hydraulic press to press some prints and then....
the outcome wasn't so good.
Unfortunately, the type has embossed far too thin and it looks more like a pin prick than anything!
It is good that I have been through this process and come across these problems now, so that I can get myself back down to Vernon to make another plate with slightly thicker type.

Brief 3:: Digitally printing fabric labels
Today, I managed to get into digital fabric printing to print Liv's clothes label for her garments.
We looked at the fabric samples we had to choose from to print on and decided that the cotton would be the best.
We managed to get 32 labels across the 1 meter of fabric. Liv only needs 13 garment labels so we have more than enough!

Brief 3:: Pantone Matching GFSmith
I have today pantone matched the cool grey GFSmith paper as best as I could in order to enable me to digitally print Liv's clothes labels to match the colour of her swing tickets and business cards.
Although it is slightly darker, the best colour match is 332-4 U.

Brief 7:: Coffee Infographics
As it seems NDG want to keep to their circular colours and white background visuals, I am going to produce these circles as infographics. This will allow the circles to then be both visually interesting as well as educational.
-
I have been looking at existing coffee infographics to see how it has been produced in the past
It seems the infographics has predominantly been produced in the cup format. I am going to take this and put it into the NDG pod format.

Brief 7:: Kickstart Coffee Types
I have been researching further into the coffee type NDG offers so that I can then produce infographic based on these coffees they offer.

Brief 3:: Lookbook design sheets
Using the inspiration I have gathered from my research, I have begun to consider the design of Liv's lookbook. I want to make the look book a little different and not necessarily a 'book'. At the end of the day, it is going to be used as promotional material for Liv, as well as to show off her final collection.

Brief 3:: Business Card Design
I have re-scaled the logo as when I printed it out before, both myself and Liv agreed that we thought the logo was too big on the business card. I have therefore made it smaller....
To ensure the sizes were correct when actually printed out, I have printed out mock designs.

Brief 3:: Copper plate prep
I have made artboards for the copper plate.
To make the copper plate time worthy I have put 8 business cards onto an A4 plate and 2 swing tickets onto another plate.

Brief 3:: Swing Ticket Development
I have been talking to Liv this afternoon about her swing tickets.
She wants them:
-rectangular
-larger than business cards
-embossed
-logo on front
-product and price on reverse
I think this design works best for Lavinia. The simplicity is present whilst the necessary information is still being presented.

Brief 3:: Hangers
As Liv wants branded hangers to use at her end of year shows, I have been looking at these white wooden hangers as they will fit in well with livs branding and are cheap as well!
-
Liv needs 9 top hangers and 4 bottom hangers, so these will be perfect.
-
The total cost will be £11.07. Hopefully, this will be okay with Liv but i'll run the price past her for her to decide.
Brief 3:: Vernon Street Opening Times
Vernon Street opening times.
-
As I want to get into Vernon Street to making an embossing plate to emboss for Livs business cards and swing tickets I have looked at the opening times and it seems I can pretty much drop in whenever over the next few weeks.

Brief 7:: Scratch and Sniff
I am not sure that a poster simply saying scratch and sniff is going to sell the coffee machine to the consumer. therefore I have been looking at other words I could use to convey the same message but with more relevance to Nescafe.
Brief 7:: Can you eat coffee beans?
As I want to play on the senses within my design idea, I wanted to see if you could eat a coffee bean?
It is fair to say that eating too many coffee will cause problems but the odd one or two will do no harm.
-
Starbucks also have coffee beans available for customers to smell and taste, so I can't see this being a problem for Nescafe.

Brief 7:: Choosing Coffee
I have been researching into how coffee buyers go about choosing the right coffee for them. I can them play on these assets within the NDG range.
It seems choosing coffee is concerned with the aroma and flavor of the coffee beans. Therefore I am going to play on the smell and taste senses within my design decisions.
Brief 7:: Scratch and Sniff
I have been researching into the possibility of using 'scratch and sniff' on my posters. However, I wasn't sure if it would be possible to produce a scratch and sniff bubble for each of the coffee flavours Nescafe produces for the NDG (Nescafe Dolce Gusto)
My research has informed me that it is possible to produce a scratch and sniff scent for almost any smell. Therefore it wold possible to do this for my poster design.

Brief 7:: Circles
As the brief states that NDG is concerned with white background and pops of circular colour, I have been looking into graphic design trends that use circles in the designs. The brief also states that they want the design to represent the 'stylish' audience they are selling the produce to.
Brief 7:: Kickstart 2013
I have been researching into the machine itself. The more I know about the machine, the better I am going to be able to sell the product to the audience.

Brief 7:: Kickstart
Design ideas for NDG Kickstart.
I want to use bold circular colours to represent the brand but also use it to represent the coffee itself. I am thinking of playing on the print processes and possibly using scratch and sniff to help represent the coffee using more senses.

Brief 7:: Kickstart 2013
I have come across this brief on YCN.
Although I am already tackling many briefs, I want to complete this one as a short two day brief.
Winning this brief could give me the opportunity to work in the YCN studio over summer and potentially win £3000. This would be an immense opportunity to 'Kickstart' my career. Therefore I am going to take a little to work on this brief.

Brief 1:: Poster Development
In response to Suzy's feedback at our last crit, I have reworked the poster. I have played with a landscape format as this is something she asked for. I have tried to work with how the poster will fold down into a square and use these squares as guides for my design. I have positioned the fashion title so that it would be on the front panel and the students names on the opposite side when it folds down..
I also continued to work on a portrait design as I feel the design works a lot better in portrait format rather than landscape format.

Brief 5:: Website Design
I am looking at existing website designs to get inspiration for the GoPaintball website design. I want the website to be:
-Bold
-Eyecatching
-Clean
-Minimal
-Colourful

Brief 5:: GoPaintball Business Cards
I have been working on the reverse of the GoPaintball business card and today printed the design onto the florescent coloured card. The reverse of the card will match up with the same flourescent colour that has been used on the front.
-
I think these work particularly well and the colours are a fresh representation of the colours used in paintballing.

Brief 5:: Sweets
I want to propose that GoPaintball send out sweets as promotional material. However, I want these sweets to be round as if to represent paint balls. I can splat the cellophane wrappers and add the logo in order to promote the company through the sweets. I want to buy some sweets to do this with so have been research round sweets I could possibly use....
Brief 5:: GP Letterhead Design
I have also been working on the GoPaintball letterhead design. I also want this to work in coherence with the business card and other printed materials.
-
I want to have one side with full splattered colour and the other side with the logo and contact information. This should work well with the business cards....

Brief 5:: Business Card Reverse
I have been working on the design for the reverse of the GoPaintball business cards. I want them to be coherent with the letterhead design and the front of the business cards. The designs look okay on screen, but I am going to print them out in order to get a true representation of the scale.
Brief 5:: White Ball
I want to blow up a white ball to use as wayfinding to the GoPaintball site.
I am going to either use a digitally enhanced ball like above, or buy a white ball and splat it myself.

Brief 5:: Letterheads
I am going to produce the GoPaintball letterheads, so have been looking for some inspiration. I want the logo to be clearly present on the letterhead whilst using a clear structure.
