The contrast of the minimal cover design compared to the colourful interior pages works well. I think the layout of the photographs and type utilises the space on the page whilst also engaging the reader as they have to turn the book to read the type. I also think using specialist print finishes on the cover, like the embossing seen here, will work well to portray the technical ability of the graduates within the yearbook.
